Corey Hollis vs. BJ Hancock from ECWA’s Super 8 2015

From Dylan Hales:

On August 7th and 8th the first ever (and hopefully first annual) Scenic City Invitational tournament will be held at the Empire Arena in Rossville, Georgia.

In an effort to get people excited for this tournament and Southern independent wrestling in general, in the weeks leading up to the event, this blog will be looking at matches from each individual participant in the tourney.  We hope you follow along, enjoy the matches, and find some new favorites along the way.

Post by TJ Hawke:

For Hollis, I decided to look at his first-round match from the 2015 Super 8 tournament. He faced off against BJ Hancock.

This was yet another solid match that I have seen because of this project. The premise of the match is pretty simple: Hollis injures his left leg early in the match, and Hancock then spends the rest of the relentlessly going after it. Hollis probably could have stood to not rely on his left leg so much afterwards to really put Hancock’s work over. However, it was a short match, and he usually was in visible pain as soon as he completed the move. That came up again with the finish as Hollis hit a standing sliced bread #2 for the win. Again, he ideally would not be doing something like that when the story of the match is based around an injured leg. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s a knock on the match for me. Solid stuff overall that is worth checking out for sure if you have an interest in either wrestler. (**3/4)
