Danny Cannon vs. Kongo Kong from IWA-MS 2014

Recap from TJ Hawke:

Kongo is huge. Cannon is small. That can probably serve as the recap for the first eighty percent of the match. Cannon tried three tope suicidas in a row, but Kongo would not go down. Cannon went for a regular plancha, but Kongo caught him. Kongo then went to work on him. Cannon fought back a couple of times, but Kongo kept cutting him off. Cannon backflipped his way out of a chokeslam and finally made a comeback. He even got Kongo down to one knee after a Tidal Wave. He dove at Kongo one too many times though, and Kongo caught him with a headbutt. Cannon got squashed with a cannonball splash. He avoided the second one though. Cannon managed to hop up to the RAFTERS for a double stomp! He barely was able to push Kongo over on his back: 1…NO! Kongo cut him off again with a fallaway slam. Cannon hit a cartwheel Pele! Kongo avoided a Frankensteiner and hit a diving powerslam. He pulled up Cannon before the referee counted to three. SUPERFLY SPLASH: 1…2…3!

Danny Cannon is someone I discovered at a live Beyond Wrestling 2014. I got to meet him later and literally gave him a bow. The dude is that impressive. Kongo Kong was equally impressive here, and this is honestly one of the best independent wrestling matches I saw from 2014 (granted, I watched very little compared to the previous four years).

These two obviously worked the general big man/little man dynamic, but they worked in so many great sequences and spots to make this match stand out. These are clearly two guys that should be in more plances. Watch this match.

Match Rating: ***3/4
