BxB Hulk vs. Gedo from NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors 2007

Recap from Lee Goodfellow:

Ah, how I’ve missed you, dancing babyface BxB Hulk. Oh, he didn’t do the dance, that’s not cool. Hulk was the Dragon Gate representative in the 2007 rendition of the world famous NJPW Best Of The Super Juniors tournament, hence him being in New Japan here. Gedo attacks Hulk before the bell. He beats him up for a while. Hulk dances out of the way and nails a floating DDT. Gedo goes ringside to, sell, recuperate and stall. Back in the ring, Hulk works him over with chops and kicks. Ref bump then low blow puts Gedo back in the driving seat. He beats Hulk up with the crowd railing. Back in the ring, he beats him up some more. Hulk lands a comeback sunset flip for two. Hulk charges again, but gets decked! Hulk gets worked over for a while. Hulk comeback, spin kicks Gedo. Gedo dodges a missile dropkick. Hulk dodges a running a strike, springboard spinning heel kick for two! Hulk goes for what I assume would have been an Asai moonsault but gets dropped on the apron. Gedo goes for MORE barrier attacks but Hulk counters. Springboard moonsault from the corner to the outside! Back in the ring, springboard kick for two. Mouse, kick onslaught, one, two, Gedo’s foot is on the rope! Gedo dodges a moonsault, but Hulk lands on his feet, hits a running BxB Press! Two count! Hulk’s E.V.O gets countered into a downward spiral for two! A jawbreaker sets Hulk up, eats a superkick not dissimilar to his own First Flash! One, two, Hulk kicks out! Gedo tried to attack with a weapon, Hulk, steals it, but he’s a good guy so he ditches it, spin kick, E.V.O! One, two, three!

Lee’s thoughts: Typical decent opening > heel works over the face > fun finishing stretch structure. Skip to the 9:40 mark for four minutes of goodness.

Thoughts from TJ Hawke:

This was a rather mundane match that didn’t stir much emotion in me. There was no compelling in-ring story, and the crowd wasn’t consistent enough. Lukewarm recommendation.

Match Rating: **1/2
