Matthew Riddle vs. David Starr from Legacy Wrestling on 12/5/2015

Post by The Fray Movement:

You know it’s an indie wrestling show because the ring announcer implores the members of the audience to go meet WWE Hall of Famer Nikolai Volkoff at his merch table before leaving for the night.

Anyway, so how about this Matthew Riddle kid? He’s a prodigy. That much is obvious. He’s still a little green in the ring but his charisma is through the roof. And every match of his I watch has something a little different. This was no exception.

For whatever reason, there’s been a talking point lately that you have to keep the kid hidden in short matches to protect him. I’ve now seen two matches which prove that theory to be false and this is one of them.

This particular match is very much one of the grappling variety but both Riddle and Starr do change up their game a bit. You get Starr diving at one point. Later, we get Riddle doing a springboard off the ropes into a knee to the face. He can do more than just grapple.

There’s a great section near the end where both guys just pummel the hell out of each other with chops back and forth and back and forth. The finish comes after Riddle goes for ANOTHER springboard move and they actually use his “greenness” to help tell a story at the end.

You may be cocky kid, but you’re still green as grass. You test your luck and it’ll bite you in the ass. And that’s what happened here.

Wait.

I think I just worked myself into a shoot.

What a time to be alive.
