Takaaki Watanabe vs. Donovan Dijak from ROH Death Before Dishonor 2015

Post by TJ Hawke:

Dijak was accompanied by Truth Martini and J Diesel.

These two worked surprisingly well together, but the match was a case of poor booking holding guys back and giving fans an unsatisfying finish. The match was laid out so that Dijak took most of it. Thus, the match implies for a while that Dijak is just much better. Fine. As soon as Watanabe makes a (brief) comeback though, Diesel has to interfere to save Dijak from a loss. Watanabe gives Diesel a nasty German on the floor to make himself look better, but then he is easy prey for Dijak to finish with his GTS variation.

So, what was accomplished here? Watanabe looked like he could barely hang with Dijak…but Dijak needs help to win? Does anyone get over that way? This feels like WWE booking, and ROH should really avoid ever coming across like WWE in that way.

Anyway, I think Dijak has a ton of potential, and Watanabe proved to be over enough here to deserve a more regular role in the company. These are positive things.
