Gran Akuma vs. Matt MacIntosh from OPW 2014

Post by TJ Hawke:

2012-13 was a good period for Gran Akuma. He was one of the standouts in Chikara and Wrestling Is, and he became someone that just contributed to whatever card I saw him on. Unfortunately, the Wrestle Is groups died out, and Chikara did not bring him back when the company returned from the “dead” in 2014. I was hoping some other prominent northeast companies (besides ISW, which does not run all that often) would recognize the value he had and would start to begin using him regularly. That has not really been the case. All of this was a long way of saying that I checked out this OPW match in order to watch Akuma.

He squares off with THE BAD APPLE in the latter’s OPW debut. It is a solid match that does not overstay its welcome in any way. There is nothing exceptional about it and there were a few moments that looked unintentionally clunky, but the match was never boring. Brevity is the soul of wit and all that jazz. Akuma eventually tapped THE BAD APPLE out with a submission that I do not know the name  (and neither did the commentators), but there’s a 50/50 chance responds to this post on Twitter with the correct name. What a time to be alive. (**1/2)
