Prince Puma vs. Cage from Lucha Underground 2014

Recap from TJ Hawke:

Puma was accompanied to the ring by Konnan. Apparently, this was Konnan’s first official ringside appearance. Cage had recently attacked Puma, and Puma is putting the Lucha Underground Championship on the line against him.

Puma took out Cage with a Fosbury Flop before the match even officially started. Cage quickly cut him off with a shoulder tackle. Cage worked him over for a while. Puma made a comeback after hitting a satellite DDT. Puma avoided the Fucking Machine Suplex, but he then dived into a jackhammer. Cage got another nearfall with a middle rope moonsault! Puma came back but Cage hit the F5. Suddenly, there were a ton of boos from the crowd. At first, I assumed it meant someone was about to interfere, but no one did. In retrospect that sounded really canned. Puma fought back again and got a nearfall. Puma called for the 630, but Cage shoved the referee into the ropes to crotch him. Cage then kicked Puma in the balls to get disqualified.

Cage then hit Puma with Weapon X before shoving the referee again. Konnan hit Cage with a cane to save Puma. Cage came back, and a kid shouted, “Why are you hitting an old man?” Cage knocked out Konnan with the title belt. Konnan got busted open while Cage ripped apart the Lucha Underground Championship!

I enjoyed this overall, and it might have gotten really good with a finish. The big takeaway from the match was that Brian Cage is in fact awesome. No one looks or works like him on the indies, and it really makes him stand out as something unique. Lucha Underground made a great decision to make him a focal point.

Match Rating: **3/4
