Johnny Gargano vs. Ethan Page from AIW’s Absolution 2014

Post by TJ Hawke:

These two get a lot of crap for their work in certain corners of the internet. Sometimes it’s absolutely deserved, and sometimes it strikes me as overly negative. This match ended up being much more about the Ethan Page babyface turn than the in-ring work. In that regard, this match was very effective (and far more so than I could have possibly expected). Page had the opportunity to receive help from Seleziya Sparx and Louis Lyndon, but he told the former to stay away and gave the latter a superkick. That led to a hot exchange to end the match between Gargano and Page that unfortunately just went too long and was too finisher-kickout happy for my tastes. Page losing clean via passing out was the right finish to complete the turn though. That’s the point of fighting clean: you’re going to win some and lose some, but you can hold your head up high (not literally in this case of course, as he was passed out). (***)
