Mike Bennett vs. Hallowicked from National Pro Wrestling Day 2014

Recap from TJ Hawke:

Live: I really found to this be “just sort of there” at the show. Nothing was executed poorly, but they did nothing extraordinary to make me care at all. I think Mike Bennett actually does have something to offer the Chikara universe, but this was not it.

Tape: This was Bennett’s first appearance in the Chikara/Wrestling Is universe since King of Trios 2012. Wicked in a step-up enzuigiri and then went for a tope suicida, but Bennett blocked it with a forearm. Bennett was in control after that. Bennett teased an apron piledriver, but Wicked avoided it. They both fell to the floor after a simultaneous yakuza/superkick spot. Wicked then hit a tope suicida. Bennett came back with a TKO. They briefly went back and forth until Wicked managed to lock in the Chikara Special. Bennett tapped out.

This came off much better on tape compared to the live experience. There was not much to the in-ring substance, but they managed to get the crowd invested, which is all that really matters in the end. Solid stuff.

Match Rating: **3/4
