Austin Aries vs. Chris Sabin vs. Manik from TNA’s IMPACT TV 2013

Recap from TJ Hawke:

The story for this X-Division Championship main event is convoluted. Sabin was the TNA X-Division a week or two before this match. He lost the title to Suicide. However, Suicide was attacked backstage by Austin Aries, and Aries (without anyone figuring it out) replaced Suicide in said match. Thus, Aries became the new X-Division Champion. Hulk Hogan revealed that TJ Perkins was Suicide (he claimed that Perkins had always been Suicide, which is hilarious). Anyway, all of this was important because Destination X was coming up, which meant that the X-Division champion could vacate the title in order to challenge for the world title.

They did some stuff. The stuff varied in coolness. At one point, Sabin gave Aries a gourd buster on the ramp. Aces & Eights came down to the ringside area. Manik went for a slingshot plancha on one of them, but Luke Gallows caught him and gave him a powerbomb to the floor. Main Event Mafia  came out to even things out.

Commericial

Manik was stretchered out. Aries gave Sabin a DVD on the apron. Aries was in control for a few minutes. Sabin made a comeback. Aries managed to cut him off by going after one of Sabin’s surgically repaired knees. Aries got a good nearfall with a brainbuster. Aries went for a 450, but Sabin avoided it. Sabin hit a powerbomb and a 2K1 Bomb: 1…2…NO! They ended up on the top rope. Sabin hit a Super Cradle Shock: 1…2…3

This is better than most IMPACT matches from this time period. I think the match is overhyped, but it’s still pretty interesting.

Match Rating: ***
