Jun Akiyama vs. Suwama from AJPW 2011

Post by TJ Hawke:

This match was for Suwama’s Triple Crown Championship.

The in-ring story of this match is not uncommon if a tad uninspired. Akiyama and Suwama both had a strategy early on. Akiyama was going for the neck, while Suwama was targeting Akiyama’s back. Neither man fully committed to it though, and they eventually resorted to just throwing bombs. That normally loses its impact on me after a while, but the execution here was quite good. Plus, you have the story of Akiyama FINALLY winning the Triple Crown Championship after not winning it in his initial eight-year run with the company. Akiyama actually ended up needing Sternness Dust α to put away Suwama who had kicked out of everything else. This was pretty good as far as Suwama matches go. (***1/2)
