Jun Akiyama vs. Seiya Sanada from AJPW 2011

Post by TJ Hawke:

This was a Champion Carnival match. Both men came into the match with four points, which would have made the result extra important at the time.

While the action of this match was nothing too special, the broader story of the younger wrestler fighting to keep up with the crafty veteran inched this one into “recommended”territory. The story was consistently told throughout the match and kept everything interesting. Akiyama requiring a wrist-clutch exploder to put Sanada away after the young lad kicked out of the regular exploder really gave that story the ending it needed. I don’t think Sanada is the main-eventer some people apparently thinks he has the potential to be. However, he has talent, and it’s sad that he has been languishing in terrible promotions since the All-Japan exodus. (***1/4)
