KUSHIDA vs. La Sombra from NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors 2010

Post by TJ Hawke:

It is always interesting to go back and watch some KUSHIDA matches before he and Alex Shelley formed a team. He just comes across like a completely different performer who is sadly not comfortable in his own skin (if you will pardon the cliche). Everything about him feels forced (right down to the bad, blonde dye job on his hair). Luckily, this BOSJ match is mostly La Sombra’s showcase, and he runs through his spots well until they go back and forth for a few minutes before the finish. KUSHIDA winning (with his Midnight Express finish) was a surprise and a mild disappointment (as much as a group play match from a 2010 tournament can be disappointing) because La Sombra was much more impressive. Mild recommendation. (**3/4)
