Ricochet vs. Jon Moxley from IWA Mid-South 2009
Review by Reed Benson:
I’m not a big fan of this match. I wanted to be, but it has a lot going against it. The lighting is bad, the crowd is small, there’s no commentary, and the pace is just too slow most of the time. Also, Ricochet hasn’t found his niche with the tattoos and the mohawk and the Benadryl-inspired moves. He kind of looks like Prince Iaukea with an afro here, and that’s not someone I want to root for.
I do think they tried. Moxley displays the sort of miserable confidence we used to see from Taz in ECW as he grounds him and beats him around. He just doesn’t do anything interesting during his lengthy control segments. When Ricochet fights back, he can do some flips and fast stuff, but nothing out of the ordinary, and he still has that look going against him.
They do the Hart-Piper Wrestlemania VIII finish with Ricochet pinning Moxley while in a crossface chicken wing, leaving Moxley with the proverbial egg on his face after starting the match by insisting that Ricochet had no chance at beating him. That and a couple of shooting star presses are about the only highlights of the match for me.
