Sting vs. Samoa Joe from TNA’s Bound for Glory 2008

Recap from TJ Hawke:

This was the third straight Bound for Glory with Sting challenging for the world title.

TNA screwing up Samoa Joe is still remarkable to this day. Joe quickly sent him to the floor and hit an elbow suicida. Joe brought Sting into the crowd. In one of stupidest things I’ve ever seen, Joe jumped down half a flight stairs to hit a dropkick. I have no idea how he did not break his ass. They continued to brawl in the crowd. They finally returned to the ring, and Joe was in control. Sting came back with a Stinger Splash and a Muscle Buster, but Joe no-sold it. Joe hit a Scorpion Deathdrop, but Sting no-sold it. He hit a pair of Stinger Splashes. Joe cut him off again. This has basically been a giant squash for Joe. He was mauling Sting. Kevin Nash, SAMOA JOE’S MENTOR, showed up! He hasn’t been here in months~! Joe hit a DDT. Sting got desperate and grabbed the bat, but Nash took it form him. Joe hit Sting with a lariat. Nash hit Joe in the back with the bat. Scorpion Deathdrop: 1…2…3

Until the booking in the final minute, this was easily the best Sting match from TNA that I have ever seen. It felt very different from a typical TNA main event, as Joe basically dominated the whole thing. Sting getting so desperate at the end that he went for the bat was nicely done. Nash taking it away to hit Joe anyway was super stupid and very TNA. I originally though Angle/Sting was Sting’s last good singles match ever, but I’m willing to say this one was basically equally as enjoyable (but in different ways).

Match Rating: ***
