Egotistico Fantastico vs. Silas Young from ICW 2008
Review by Reed Benson:
I watched this match twice and still had trouble recalling most of it. I really like Egotistico Fantastico/Robert Anthony, but the match is clipped and looks like it was filmed from the moon with a handheld, and that right there is a recipe for forgetfulness for me.
Skimming through it again, it looks like they’re evenly matched until Silas catches Ego with a forearm as he attempts a tope. Ego recovers, but Silas turns him inside out with a lariat. They clip out a lost of Silas’ bearhug and whatever it is that enables Ego to escape it. Silas gets caught going for the Pee Gee Waja Plunge and gets Death Valley driven for a nearfall. Ego gets German suplexed off the top. Silas goes for the Plunge again, but his neck is too hurt (selling the DVD like a champ). Ego knocks him outside and hits a somersault plancha, and both guys lie there for about five days. Not sure why the clippers didn’t shorten this stretch of time. Also, why use a move that’s going to take you out along with your opponent for an equal amount of time?
The wrestlers recover in time for the next presidential election, at least, and Ego goes for a waterwheel slam, but Silas grabs the ropes and counters with a reverse headscissors/piledriver-type thing. Then he hits the Killer Combo (backbreaker/clothesline) for the pin.
A pretty good match massively hindered by the clipping and low-budget camera work. If stuff like that doesn’t bother you, then it’s worth a look. I’d probably have recommended it if it had been filmed from ringside and presented in full.
