Sting vs. Kurt Angle from Bound for Glory 2007

Recap from TJ Hawke:

This was for Angle’s TNA Heavyweight Championship.

Sting had a lot of success early on. Angle raked his eyes and then hit a release German to cut him off. Angle then worked him over. They did a double lariat spot, and both men went down. Sting then made a comeback. Angle came back with a series of Germans. In a fairly convoluted spot that they managed to pull off with surprising ease, Sting reversed an ankle lock and turned it into a Scorpion Deathlock. Karen Angle ran down. Kenny Rogers ran in and hit Sting! What a shock! Angle hit the Olympic Slam: 1…2…NO! Sting tried to come back with a middle rope splash, but Angle got his knees up: 1…2…NO! Oh gawd. Angle went for a 450 Splash, but it became a 450 knee stomp: 1…2…NO! Sting sent Angle into Nash. Ref bump. Scorpion Deathdrop. Second ref showed up: 1…2…Nash pulled him out! Nash attacked Sting, but he came back on both Nash and Angle. Scorpion Deathdrop: 1…2…3!

Since it’s TNA and a Sting PPV match, the booking of the finish was really dreadful and took away from the match. Before that though, Sting and Angle worked pretty hard, and I enjoyed what they were doing. It’s not a classic match by any means, but it’s possibly Sting’s last good match ever. Mild recommendation.

Match Rating: ***
