John Cena vs. Randy Orton from WWE’s Summerslam 2007

Recap from TJ Hawke:

I recall this being my favorite Cena/Orton match ever. Cena was in the middle a near year-long WWE Championship reign. Orton was considered to favorite to win this match, as I recall.

Cena went for the STFU early on, but Orton escaped into the ropes before it was locked in. Orton cut him off after sending Cena into a commentation station (shaped like a table!). Cena had a couple of hope spots, but Orton was mostly in control for a while. Cena eventually made the Five Moves of Doom comeback. The crowd was split on the idea of that. Orton came back and got a nearfall with the elevated DDT. Cena avoided the RKO, but Orton managed to low-bridge him to the floor. Cena came back with a sloppy Blockbuster. Cena was able to connect on the diving FameAsser after a very labored setup. Orton came back and called for the Concussion Punt, but Cena avoided it and got the STFU. Orton got the ropes and then hit the RKO out of nowhere. Orton was slow to the cover because if his injured knee: 1…2…NO! Cena caught Orton with a FU out of nowwhere: 1…2…3

This was pure WWE main event style, and I enjoyed every second of it. They each got their shit in, and the finishing sequence was about finishers. The crowd was great the whole time, too. Good stuff.

Match Rating: ***3/4
