The Undertaker & Batista vs. John Cena & Shawn Michaels from WWE 2007

Recap from TJ Hawke:

This took place a week before Wrestlemania 2007. If you squint your eyes, you can see Shawn Michaels literally complaining under his breath about having to carry around a tag team title. Big Dave had bad hair at this point.

The entrances took over six minutes. Taker started the match immediately taking it to Cena. Blows my mind Taker/Cena never happened at Mania before Taker lost. Taker actually got cut off and worked over. I would have lost money on that one. The product was so naturally over in 2007. I don’t recall the build for either title match being particularly memorable, but people cared clearly. Taker eventually abandoned Big Dave. Cena and Shawn worked together. They even hit stereo Five Knuckle Shuffles…Shawn caught Cena with a superkick! Big Dave crawled over: 1…2…3!

Wow, the product was just over here on a level that does not compare to 2015 at all. The creative was not all that creative (Cena and Michaels are opponents who have to be tag partners!), but it just worked here. Can’t recommend this enough if you’re in the mood for watching the WWE doing cliche angles but with a very enjoyable execution!

Match Rating: ***
