Sting & Christian Cage vs. Jeff Jarrett & Monty Brown from TNA’s Final Resolution 2006

Recap from TJ Hawke:

This was Sting’s first TNA match since late 2003. Gail Kim was JJ’s valet at this point.

Sting and Christian had lots of success early on. A Kim distraction allowed the heels to cut off Christian. Kim even gave him a hurricanrana on the floor. Christian was worked over for a while. There were a couple of good hot tag teases. Christian eventually avoided a con-chair-to, and Sting made a hot tag. Right after a ref bump/distraction, Sting had JJ tapping to the Scorpion Deathlock, but Brown sent Christian into Sting to break it up. Sting and Christian got tense. They went back to working together though. Eric Young and Bobby Roode ran in. Christian and Sting took them out. Christian wiped out Monty with a plancha. JJ hit Sting with the belt: 1…2…NO! Sting destroyed JJ’s guitar with his bat and then hit a Scorpion Deathdrop: 1…2…3!

I was really digging this match for a while. It was smartly laid out, and I genuinely enjoy PPV main event tag matches from singles wrestlers. It’s not something I would want too often, but it’s rare enough in WWE for me to think it’s relatively fresh. The match pretty much fell apart once the overbooking came in. There have certainly been worse instances of that in TNA PPV main events. This was still pretty annoying though.

Match Rating: **3/4
