Bryan Danielson vs. Roderick Strong from ROH 2005

Post by TJ Hawke:

This was for Bryan’s ROH World Championship.

So, Bryan clearly was enraptured with the idea of making world title matches super long on a regular basis. While this was physically impressive to pull off, the extra length did not really add anything to a lot of his matches beyond making them a bit tedious. Combining that with him getting less violent as performer as consistently as he had been at times beforehand, and you’re left with a series of underwhelming and mixed bags of matches. The idea of Bryan slowly wearing Roderick down over a ridiculously long period of time makes perfect sense. It just not does not make for great wrestling. Bryan won via referee stoppage. (**1/2)
