Bryan Danielson vs. Claudio Castagnoli from IWA Mid-South’s TPI 2005

Recap from TJ Hawke:

This was a first round match in the 2005 TPI. Danielson was the ROH World Champion at the time in case you were wondering. Claudio was the IWA-Switzerland World Champion. **Goes to Wikipedia** That’s a real company and a real belt? I feel like there is a joke that I am missing.

Neither man could get firm control for a while. Claudio was going after various body parts. Dragon was sporadically messing with Claudio. Claudio was finally able to get an advantage by going after the left arm. Dragon made a comeback after a dropkick. They started trading uppercuts. Claudio hit the Waterslide for a nearfall. Dragon no-sold a delayed vertical suplex and then did the Airplaine Spin. Claudio tried to no-sell that, but he failed.  Dragon hit the diving headbutt for a nearfall. Cattle Mutilation! Claudio escaped and went for the Break Special on the injured arm! Dragon reversed it into a crossface chickenwing! Claudio taps out!

There were some cool and funny moments in this match, but I think they went too long for the amount of interesting stuff they had. These two have produced much better matches together in ROH and WWE. Still worth a look though.

Match Rating: ***
