Chris Jericho vs. Shelton Benjamin from WWE’s Taboo Tuesday 2004

Recap from TJ Hawke:

I believe the official scoop about this match was that the vote was legitimate and that neither guy knew that Shelton would be the challenger. Thus, they had to call the match on the fly live on PPV. Jericho’s Intercontinental Championship was on the line.

Jericho got control fairly early on. The match did not have much energy. Shelton came back after hitting a superplex. Jericho went for the Lionsault, but Shelton avoided it. They started going back and forth. Shelton kicked out of the Lionsault and then caught Jericho with an exploder: 1…2…3

This match was very generic, which is not all that surprising when you know that they didn’t have a chance to plan anything beforehand. The match was not bad, but it was also not interesting. The title change was a nice way to establish this PPV concept though.

Match Rating: **1/4
