AJ Styles vs. Amazing Red from TNA 2003

Recap from TJ Hawke:

Mortimer Plumtree accompanied AJ to the ring.

Red was briefly in control to start the match. AJ caught a pescado attempt though and slammed Red to the ground. AJ then worked him over. Red almost came back a few times, but AJ kept cutting him off. Red hit a Code Red for a nearfall, but AJ cut him off again. Red tried to go for a Frankensteiner, but AJ looked to reverse it into a super Styles Clash. Red avoided that. Styles avoided a super plex. Red avoided another Super Styles Clash attempt and snapped off a Frankensteiner that AJ took a 450 bump for: 1…2…3!

Wow, this match really stood out to me as something we don’t see all that often anymore. AJ got 90% of the offense in this match, but it never felt repetitive or boring. More junior heavyweights need to examine this match so that they can stand out today.

Match Rating: ***3/4
