Shawn Michaels vs. Rob Van Dam from WWE’s Raw TV 2002

Recap from TJ Hawke:

Shawn was champion for maybe a month in 2002 (his last world title reign), and I guess he actually managed to defend it at least once before dropping it back to HHH.

Shawn avoided a plancha, but RVD then hit a moonsault off the apron. RVD ran through Shawn briefly before Shawn cut him off with a dragonscrew. Shawn went after the left leg of RVD after that. RVD came back after sending Shawn into a ringpost. They started going back and forth. RVD hit a backbreaker. Shawn’s injured back was still a major talking point at this time. RVD then hit the frog splash on the back: 1…2…Triple H interfered for DQ.

HHH pedigreed RVD on the floor. HHH looked huge here. HHH gave Shawn a backbreaker through a chair. Triple H blah.

It’s hard to get overly enthusiastic about this match considering the finish. The match was fun enough though beforehand at least. They did not have great chemistry, but they worked better together than I expected. RVD’s selling (or lack there of) was silly.

Match Rating: **1/2
