Christopher Daniels vs. Spanky (Brian Kendrick) from EPIC WAR 2002

Recap from TJ Hawke:

Excalibur is on commentary.  Spanky comes out in a giant hat, with Jurassic 5’s Quality Control as his music.  What a winner.  Excalibur compares the flippiness of Spanky’s style to that of a drunken monkey.  Heel Excalibur is a treat to listen to.  Spanky sent Daniels to the floor early with a headscissors.  Back in the ring, they went back and forth for a bit until Daniels hit a running neckbreaker.  Excalibur: “Would you say Rivera, that Spanky was trained by border-hopping Mexicans?”  Meanwhile, Daniels started to get the heat on Spanky.  Spanky came back with a dropkick and a Russian Legsweep.  Daniels cut him off with another big running neckbreaker.  Daniels started to get the heat again, until Spanky avoided a German suplex and hit a dropkick.  Spanky sent Daniels to the floor with a springboard headscissors.  Spanky followed that up with a tope con hello.  Back in the ring, Spanky hit a superkick for a nearfall.  Daniels came back with a STO.  Daniels hit a Blue Thunder Bomb for a nearfall.  Rock Bottom from Daniels.  Daniels went for the BME, but Spanky rolled out of the way.  Spanky went for a Frog Splash, but Daniels rolled out of the way himself.  Spanky avoided Last Rites and hit  Sliced Bread #2: 1…2…3!

This was a nice match that showcased these two great talents before they found as much mainstream success as they would in the next couple of years.  It’s kind of crazy that Daniels has managed to work a style that is both safe, yet engaging enough so that he hasn’t got completely stale over the last decade.
