Recap from Bob Colling:

This was the fifth match of a competition between WCW and New Japan. The series was tied at two leading to this match.

They start with some mat wrestling with Otani getting the upper hand but Guerrero gets to his feet and soon drops Otani with a kick to the side of his head. Otani gets control of Eddie’s left leg but Eddie quickly counters out of the hold. Guerrero hits a quick hurricanrana and Otani bails to the floor to recover. Guerrero kept the advantage with a scoop slam and a slingshot somersault splash from the apron. Eddie locks in a Boston Crab in the middle of the ring. Otani manages to reach the bottom rope to break the hold. Guerrero plants Otani with a power bomb but only gets a two count.

Eddie spikes Otani with a brain buster but Otani gets his leg on the bottom rope. Otani avoids a splash in the corner and hit a springboard dropkick. Guerrero goes to the floor where Otani hit a springboard cross body! Otani continues his offense on Guerrero with a dropkick back in the ring. Eddie tries to fight out of a sleeper hold and does with a side suplex. Otani counters a suplex with a German suplex for a near fall. Otani nails Eddie with a springboard spinning heel kick.

Otani heads to the top but Guerrero cuts him off with a nice top rope hurricanrana for a near fall. Guerrero nearly wins following a sit down power bomb! Otani gets an ankle lock on Guerrero but doesn’t get a submission. Otani misses Eddie on a running attack and falls to the floor. Eddie sends Otani into the guard railing and slams Otani on the floor. Guerrero takes Otani out with a springboard twisting cross body on the floor! Otani brings Eddie back into the ring with a suplex from the apron.

Guerrero struggles to his feet and Otani comes off the top with a springboard dropkick to the back of Eddie’s head. Otani rolls through a hurricanrana but Eddie rolls through. Otani rolls through one more time and wins the match!

A decent match between these two that didn’t garner a lot of crowd reaction. They worked well with each other and produced a fine match. I just wish the crowd cared about it. It seemed like they were getting into the match just as it was over. Enough action here to hold my interest throughout.

Match Rating: ***
