Bret Hart vs. Ric Flair from WWF 1992

Recap from TJ Hawke:

This was for Flair’s WWF Heavyweight Championship and in Flair’s hometown. Hmmmmmmmm. [NOTE: Spot the two foolish errors in that statement and then check in the comments to see if you were right!]

Mr. Perfect accompanied Flair to the ring. Flair couldn’t get anything going early on. Bret went after Flair’s left arm. That will go nowhere. Flair cut Bret off, but Bret came back with a sunset flip that bared Flair’s ass. Big comeback from Bret. Flair cut him off again with an eye poke. Bret eventually came back by going after the right leg. He then applied the figure four on the wrong leg. Flair fought back. Yes, we needed a third heat segment. Flair got the figure four, but Bret eventually got to the ropes. Bret’s left leg was injured by this point. Bret tossed Flair off the top rope and then made a comeback. Bret hit a superplex and then applied the sharpshooter. Flair submitted!

I did not think this match made the best use of the extensive time that they had. That’s often how I feel about long Bret Hart matches as I go back through them. There just isn’t a ton of compelling stuff going on during the match, and they usually do not generate a ton of emotion until the end. This match obviously was not bad, but it felt distinctly average.

Match Rating: **1/2

It’s actually in neither man’s hometown, since neither are from Saskatoon.

Saying it was Flair’s hometown was a major editing mistake. Meaning it was Bret’s hometown was just a damn error on my part. However, it was the location of Bret’s first ever match. So, it was the birth of Bret’s wrestling career! Eh?????
