Randy Savage vs. George “The Animal” Steele from WWF’s Saturday Night Main Event 1987

Recap from TJ Hawke:

Savage and Elizabeth’s incredibly fucked up kayfabe relationship was on full display during a backstage interview with Gene Okerlund. Savage’s WWF Intercontinental Championship and the managerial services of Miss Elizabeth were on the line.

George “The Animal” Steele then creeped on Elizabeth.

Savage hit Animal with a double axe handle before the match started. He tried to run away with Elizabeth, but Ricky Steamboat blocked their path. Animal was running through Savage. He then distracted himself by destroying a turnbuckle pad. Savage took advantage and cut him off. Animal blocked a lariat by biting Savage’s arm. Animal then threw some of the turnbuckle padding into Savage. Animal then went back to creeping on Elizabeth. Savage threw Elizabeth’s raised chair onto Animal. That allowed Savage to win via countout.

This felt very crash TV for late eighties WWF. That’s about the only thing that stood out to me.
